Operated by JIC Global Pty Ltd (ACN 660 593 537), trading as JIC Around ("JIC Around", "we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose and protect your personal information, in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
This Policy applies to all visitors to our website at www.jicaround.com (the "Site"), everyone who subscribes to our newsletter, everyone who contacts us, and all communications with us. By using the Site, subscribing to our newsletter, or contacting us, you agree to your personal information being handled as described in this Policy.
Important. JIC Around is a free events and live-music guide for the Airlie Beach and Whitsunday region. We do not sell anything through the Site, we do not take payments, and we do not run a paid membership. Nothing in this Policy is intended to limit any right you have under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Consumer Law, or any other law that cannot be excluded by contract. If anything here conflicts with those rights, those rights win.
1. What is personal information?
"Personal information" means information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether the information is true or not and whether recorded in a material form or not. For JIC Around this is limited to information such as your name, your email address, and any message you send us.
2. What information we collect
JIC Around is designed to be used with the minimum possible personal information. You can browse the entire Site — the gig calendar, venue pages, artist pages, the World Cup fixtures and the courtesy bus information — without giving us any personal information at all.
We only collect personal information in the limited circumstances below.
| Information | Collected when | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | When you subscribe to our newsletter | To send you our weekly guide to gigs and events, and related updates (see section 3.5) |
| First name (optional) | When you subscribe, if you choose to provide it | To personalise our messages to you |
| Full name, email address and your message | When you use our contact form or email us | To respond to your enquiry and keep a record of our correspondence |
| Hashed IP address and browser/user-agent | Each time you visit or submit a form | Security, abuse and spam prevention, and basic regional analytics |
| Device and browser information | Each visit to the Site | Operating and debugging the Site |
| Communication records | When you contact us | Responding to you and maintaining customer-service records |
2.1 What we do not collect
JIC Around does not collect or store:
- Credit or debit card numbers, CVV codes, or expiry dates — JIC Around is free and does not process any payments.
- Your mobile phone number (we do not require one to use the Site or the newsletter).
- Government-issued identification (passport, driver's licence, Medicare card).
- Health information, biometric data, or other sensitive information as defined in the Privacy Act.
- Information about your race, religion, political views, sexual orientation, or trade union membership.
- Information from anyone we know to be under 18 years of age (see section 10).
2.2 Anonymous browsing
You may visit and browse the entire Site without providing any personal information. The only time we ask for your details is if you choose to subscribe to the newsletter or contact us. Anonymous usage data (such as page visits and time on site) may still be collected for analytics — see section 4.
2.3 Content you send us
If you send us a photo, review, message or social-media tag, we may collect and store that content so we can respond to you or, where you have made your social account public and tagged us, repost it on our channels (such as Instagram) to promote JIC Around and local venues and artists. You can opt out at any time — email us with the subject line "UGC opt-out" and we will stop using your content and, where reasonably possible, take it down.
3. How we use your information
3.1 Operating the guide and newsletter
- Adding you to, and managing, our newsletter list.
- Sending you the weekly guide to local gigs and events.
- Operating, maintaining and securing the Site.
3.2 Communicating with you
- Responding to enquiries you send through the contact form or by email.
- Sending you service messages about the newsletter itself (for example, confirming your subscription or telling you about important changes to this Policy). These are not marketing.
3.3 Improving the service
- Understanding which parts of the Site are most used so we can improve them.
- Detecting and preventing spam, abuse, or fraudulent sign-ups — including logging a hashed IP address and user-agent on form submissions.
- Producing internal, de-identified reports and analytics.
3.4 Legal and compliance
- Meeting our obligations under Australian law.
- Cooperating with law-enforcement requests where legally required.
- Establishing, exercising or defending legal claims.
3.5 Marketing consent (the newsletter)
Our newsletter is opt-in. We only add you to it, and only send it to you, because you have actively chosen to subscribe through the Site. We will only send you direct marketing messages consistent with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
Our newsletter focuses on local gigs and events. It may also include updates about JIC Insider, our separate membership product offering deals and discounts around Airlie Beach. By subscribing you consent to receiving those updates as part of the newsletter.
Every marketing email contains a clear and functional unsubscribe option. You can withdraw your consent at any time using any method in section 8.3. We will action your unsubscribe request promptly and, in any event, within five business days as required by the Spam Act. Service messages about the newsletter or changes to this Policy are not marketing and may continue even after you unsubscribe.
4. Cookies and analytics
4.1 Cookies and local storage
The Site may use cookies — small text files stored on your device — and browser storage for purposes such as:
- Essential: operating and securing the Site.
- Functional: remembering basic preferences, such as a dismissed banner.
- Analytics: helping us understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it.
You can control or clear cookies through your browser settings. Disabling analytics cookies does not affect the core functionality of the Site.
4.2 Analytics services
We may use third-party analytics services to understand how visitors use the Site. These services may collect anonymous information such as pages visited, time on site, and browser type. They do not collect information that identifies you personally unless you have provided it to us through the Site.
5. Third parties who handle your information
We use the third-party service providers below to operate JIC Around. Each is required to handle your personal information securely and only for the purposes we direct. JIC Around remains accountable to you for ensuring our providers handle your information in line with this Policy and the APPs. Where we send personal information to a recipient overseas, we take reasonable steps under Australian Privacy Principle 8 to ensure they handle it consistently with the APPs.
We do not sell your personal information. Ever.
5.1 Supabase — database hosting
Our newsletter and contact records are stored on Supabase, a managed database platform that acts as our data processor. JIC Around remains the data controller. Data may be stored in Supabase data centres located outside Australia.
5.2 Lovable — website hosting
Our website is built and hosted on the Lovable platform.
5.3 Resend — email delivery
Our newsletter, subscription confirmations and contact-form messages are delivered using Resend, our email infrastructure provider, sending from our verified domain. Resend processes the email address and message content solely to deliver our emails.
5.4 Analytics providers
As described in section 4, we may use analytics providers that collect anonymous usage information.
5.5 Links to venue, artist and other third-party sites
The Site contains many links to third-party websites and social-media pages — including venue websites, artist Instagram pages, ticketing pages, courtesy-bus booking pages and taxi services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those external sites. When you follow a link away from the Site, this Policy no longer applies, and you should review the privacy policy of the site you are visiting before providing any personal information to it.
5.6 Courtesy bus and taxi services
Where we list courtesy-bus or taxi information for local venues, those services are operated by the venues or third parties, not by JIC Around. If you book or use one of those services, your dealings are with that provider, and their handling of your information is governed by their own privacy policy, not this one.
5.7 Other situations
We may also disclose your personal information:
- To our professional advisors (lawyers, accountants, IT consultants) where reasonably necessary.
- To law enforcement or government agencies where legally required.
- To a buyer or successor entity if our business is sold or merged.
- Where you have given us specific consent.
We do not sell your personal information to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else.
6. Where your information is stored
Your personal information is stored on servers operated by our third-party providers, which may be located in Australia, Singapore, the United States, or other countries depending on the provider. Where personal information is transferred outside Australia, we take reasonable steps under Australian Privacy Principle 8 to ensure the overseas recipient handles the information consistently with the APPs. We remain accountable to you for the handling of your information by overseas providers we engage.
7. How we protect your information
7.1 Technical security
- HTTPS encryption for all data transmitted between your device and the Site.
- Encryption-at-rest for stored personal information.
- Access controls limiting who can see your information.
- Strong password policies and multi-factor authentication for administrative access.
- Regular security updates of underlying software and infrastructure.
7.2 Organisational measures
- Only authorised personnel can access personal information, and only for the purposes described in this Policy.
- Anyone handling personal information is bound by confidentiality obligations.
7.3 Limits on security
While we use reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will respond promptly and openly to any incident affecting your information.
7.4 Data breach response
In the unlikely event of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under Part IIIC of the Privacy Act.
8. Your rights
8.1 Access to your information
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you at any time. We will respond within a reasonable period, and in any event within 30 days. Email us with the subject line "Privacy Access Request".
8.2 Correction of your information
If any information we hold is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading, you can ask us to correct it by emailing us.
8.3 Withdrawing marketing consent / unsubscribing
- Click the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email; or
- Email us with the subject line "Unsubscribe".
We will action your request promptly. You may still receive service messages about changes to this Policy.
8.4 Deletion of your information
You can request deletion of your information by emailing us with the subject line "Delete My Information". We will delete or de-identify your information within 30 days, subject to anything we are legally required to retain (see section 9).
8.5 Complaints
If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, contact us first with the subject line "Privacy Complaint". If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC):
- Website: www.oaic.gov.au
- Phone: 1300 363 992
- Post: GPO Box 5288, Sydney NSW 2001
8.6 Right to sue for serious privacy invasions
Since June 2025, Australians have had a direct right to sue in court for serious invasions of privacy under a statutory tort. Nothing in this Policy limits that right or any other right you have under the Privacy Act or the Australian Consumer Law.
9. How long we keep your information
- Newsletter subscriber records: for as long as you remain subscribed, and for a reasonable period after you unsubscribe to honour your opt-out and prevent accidental re-subscription.
- Contact and correspondence records: up to 2 years from our last contact.
- Security and analytics logs: kept only for as long as needed for the security and analytics purposes described above, then deleted or de-identified.
- Unsubscribe records: kept indefinitely, so we continue to honour your preference not to be contacted.
We do not hold payment records, because we do not take payments.
10. Age
JIC Around lists events at licensed venues and is intended for a general adult audience aged 18 and over. While anyone can browse the Site, you must be 18 or older to subscribe to our newsletter. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have, we will delete it without delay. If you believe we have collected information from a person under 18, please contact us.
11. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at www.jicaround.com/privacy with the "Last updated" date shown at the top. For material changes — anything that affects how we collect, use, or share your information — we will take reasonable steps to notify subscribers, such as by email, before the changes take effect.
